The administrators to Ecole Agape carried all twelve donated laptops in their suitcases to Haiti. Chantal and Marie Michele, the nieces to Myrtha, the school’s founder, had very heavy bags when we left them at the train station in New Haven, on their way to New York. They also had the beginnings of a media center for the school, including a laptop speaker and projector to aid in teaching the 200 girls.
Teacher training has begun and judging by the teacher’s expressions, they’re feeling happy as well as challenged! We wish them success as they endeavor to learn a new technology. A huge thank you to all who helped make this possible.
The lives of 200 girls are being impacted by this opportunity to attend school. Ecole Agape is the only free girls’ school in Haiti, with approximately 65% of its students attending as restaveks. Restavek is a form of modern-day slavery in Haiti affecting one in every 15 children. The children, typically girls, are given to other families as domestic servants because their own families can’t provide for them.
