Thank you for your support of Ecole Agape with your generous donations, sponsorships, and attendance at our fundraisers. With your help students receive daily nutritious meals, textbooks, library books, tablets, computer classes, and internet access during the school year. Salaries for the teachers, the librarian, and staff not only continued uninterrupted, but funding for a school nurse and teaching assistants have been added.
The conditions in Haiti have not improved. Gangs are increasing the violence of their attacks, kidnappings, and ransom demands. Vigilantes are killing anyone they suspect of being in a gang. Many schools, health care facilities, and businesses have closed. Food, gasoline, and everyday items are much more expensive. Despite the escalating violence impacting attendance, the tireless efforts of the administrators and teachers kept Ecole Agape operating. The secure wall around the perimeter of the school campus and locked gates (built with your financial generosity) kept the students and staff safe when school was in session.
The Haitian administrators kept Friends of Ecole Agape informed about the school’s operation. Preschool through 6th grade programing continued. Fifth and sixth graders received computer classes. A nurse (a new position through your financial generosity} taught sex education classes three days each week. Teachers voluntarily stayed after hours without pay to help students “catch up” with work missed when violence made attendance impossible. In the spring, Saturday classes in sewing skills became a new option for students.
