The administrators to Ecole Agape carried all twelve donated laptops in their suitcases to Haiti. Chantal and Marie Michele, the nieces to Myrtha, the school’s founder, had very heavy bags when we left them at the train station in New Haven, on their way to New York. They also had the beginnings of a media center for the school, including a laptop speaker and projector to aid in teaching the 200 girls. Many new angels earned their wings at the 2nd Annual Wine Tasting on April 7 at the St. Philip parish center in Ashford. Nearly 300 people contributed over $13,000 in free will offerings to benefit the only free girls’ school in Haiti. Ecole Agape (School of Love) is a primary school serving 200 students grades one through six in Lilavois, a town outside of Port-au-Prince. Donations fund teacher salaries, school supplies, a new library, and a nutritional school meal program. Behind the scenes at Friends of Ecole Agape there’s a group of hard-working volunteers who build storage shelters and drive tractors. Many tractor trips and hundreds of tie-wraps later, a shelter stands at the far end of Rikke Wassenberg’s property serving as storage for a set of tables and chairs purchased from St. Jude’s church in Willington, ready to go for the next fundraising event for Ecole Agape, the only free all-girls’ school in Haiti.
